Since my last post I managed to finish roughly 1500pts of Harlequins and got some very good games in with them, sadly not many wins though.

After reading through the new Doom Of Mymeara book from Imperial Armour I have decided on a new project, naturally it would have to be more Eldar...... This time some Corsairs!
After a while planning out what I want to do I ordered myself a couple of Jetbike Conversion packs, a Corsair Reavers conversion pack with a Heavy Weapon pack, An Eldar Lynx and then an Autarch and a couple of boxes of Jetbikes...........Oh and an Airbrush to paint them with!
The airbrush is something I hadn't used for quite some time, previously when I used one it didn't have particularly good results though I am sure this is part inexperience and part cheap airbrush!
After a while of practicing with various colour schemes and doing a load of test models (Old Falcons, Support Weapon Platforms and Jetbikes) I decided on a blended colour scheme using Vallejo Storm Blue as a base colour.
The Lynx was my first model to be finished (I got a bit excited to get it done!) here is a picture of it:

The jetbikes, Reavers and Corsair Prince are all currently on the workbench being painted and will be posted up soon!Auric's Pridehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989104909705110473noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5790274324563307172.post-13576303785950096042015-02-21T09:37:00.004-08:002015-02-21T09:37:50.814-08:00The show must go on!Ok so most of my posts have tend to just be mainly pictures showing how I've been building the army but this one is going to be a bit more thoughtful.

We've had what seems like everything important now leaked from Codex: Harlequins and for the most part they've turned out as we expected. Fast moving but very fragile army which can hit like a tonne of bricks if it makes it in to combat.
The Codex certainly has thrown a few spanners into the works though, I had an idea of how I wanted to field my army and going by what we have so far I am thinking that I may have to go back to the drawing board somewhat.
There are several issues that I have spotted so far:
Formations:
Ok, the leaked formations so far look pretty good if you are wanting to take the Harlequins as allies. There are some great special rules (Charging after Running, Hit and Run into a transport) but they are very limiting and with the points cost of a lot of things in the Harlequin book will end up costing too much to use in anything 1500pts or lower. The Harlequin Masque Detachment is good but unfortunately like the Formations it is very limiting. It forces you to take 3 Troupes, 2 Fast attack choices and 1 Heavy Support. Again with the cost of the units you are looking North of 1000pts.
Inherent Weaknesses:
The Harlequins were never going to be Jack of all trades, they are a specialized force and this codex really shows that. The problem is there are things they are going to seriously struggle to deal with.
Mass armour- Haywire cannons are great and all characters can take Haywire grenades but there really is nothing in the book that can deal any real damage at range. The prismatic cannon is only Strength 7 and 24" range. At 1500pts you are only looking at about 6 Haywire cannons. Good for about 3 Hull points if you roll well. Come up against a Astra Militarum army with multiple tanks or an Eldar army with multiple serpents and it's curtains.
Flyers- The big issue that I can see in this book. Admittedly Flyers aren't quite as popular nowadays as they were before but without anything in the book with Skyfire or enough shots to really stand a chance at doing any damage to aerial targets this is a big issue.

The way I see it at the moment is to make the Harlequins anything near effective (I mean just casual game, not competitive tournament play) they are going to need some help. For not a huge amount of points you can add Eldar or Dark Eldar battle brother allies which can add a little of that ranged firepower. Sadly though with the points cost of most of the Harlequins units and the fact you have to pay the Voidweaver/ Skyweaver taxes to field them as a primary detachment your options of Allies are rather limited.

Saying that,
I love the models, I've just painted up 12 of the new Harlequins and although the Diamonds are definitely starting to send me slowly insane they were a pleasure to put together and the kit is great. The idea of a Harlequin army really still appeals to me, there is something so enigmatic about them that I am sure I will still be enjoying using this army even if it's on the wrong end of a few heavy losses!
The psychic powers look great and there seem to be some interesting possible combinations involving the Relic wargear. I think it's going to take me a fair few games to really get into the swing of using this army, but it's going to be an enjoyable journey!

However, here is a few photos!
I have two boxes of the Troupe on their way and a Solitaire, can't wait to get the models but with the leaked photos for the Skyweavers I suspect I am going to have a lot of painting to do over the next few weeks!
As for now the basics of the army are as good as done, first Harlequin Troupe are fully painted and my Razorwing and Venoms are all ready to go! Just need to base them and then I am ready to move on to the next unit!
Here is a family shot of the army so far:

And then a closeup of my Razorwing:

And finally my WIP Solitaire/Archon conversion, still a little work to do on this model but I am quite happy so far!
I am sticking with the Black and white theme with individual colours (apart from Characters) but it's come out darker and to be honest a lot more sinister than I expected, something I am very happy with!
Here is a WIP of my Troupe Master to give an idea:

Definitely a bit different from how I have planned but so far I am really happy with how they have turned out. Definitely has a bit of a Sinister Horror Film Clown vibe to him!Auric's Pridehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989104909705110473noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5790274324563307172.post-31810750778460665512015-01-24T09:08:00.000-08:002015-01-24T09:08:14.835-08:00Another update! So the Codex rumours have got to the point now where it seems inevitable so it's all guns blazing now!
Went up to GW this morning and picked up a couple of Venoms and a Razorwing. I have built both Venoms today so now my Wyches have something to ride in.
Here is how the army is looking so far:

So far this consists of:
5x Wyches with Venom
5x Wyches with Venom
Wraithlord with EML and Brightlance
5x Rangers
10x Harlequins- Troupe master, Shadowseer, Death Jester and two fusion guns
Eldrad
Archon/Solitaire conversion.

I think I may go to using my White Seer as an Eldrad stand in for the games coming up, I have a couple of playtesting games planned for the end of this week.Auric's Pridehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989104909705110473noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5790274324563307172.post-2172027958078466202015-01-12T10:19:00.001-08:002015-01-12T10:19:24.011-08:00A bit of progress!Well things have been going well to start.
I have a Wraithlord and two units of Wyches fully painted up and ready for the table. In addition I have a unit of harlequins built and primed. Though I think they are going to take a while to get painted up to the standard that I want!

Here is a photo of the first couple of units, almost enough to get them into some games!

Auric's Pridehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989104909705110473noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5790274324563307172.post-40801889219070186442015-01-03T03:03:00.000-08:002015-01-03T03:03:36.189-08:00So lets get started!Ok,
So while lying in bed trying to sleep last night I was having a good think about how I am going to construct the army. I want a force that will be fluffy but hopefully won't get crushed every time they hit the table, with that in mind I came up with a few self-imposed restrictions on what I am allowed to take. They are:

No Vehicles bigger than a Hornet, this is supposed to be a quick strike force attacking through the webway so no Falcons/Wave Serpents etc.

No Wraithknights, although there is fluff backing up the use of Wraith constructs the Wraithknight is just too big.

No non Eldar/Dark Eldar allies.

Up to one unit of Wraithguard for each Wraithlord taken.

Only allowed Aspect Warriors that fit the fluff (Dark Reapers, Warp Spiders, Shadow Spectres)

No Avatar

All models must be painted with the Correct colour scheme

The last point is more for my motivation more than anything, all too often I cheat and end up using units that aren't painted or are painted in an old colour scheme. There is something just much more impressive about a whole coherent painted army. Just looks that much better.
If you can think of any others then don't be afraid to suggest them.
Cheers. Due to a change in job and lots of outside influences my time for the hobby has been pretty low. Hopefully in the new year this should change!

In March my local club is going to be starting up a new 40k league and so far we have quite a few people sign up for it!

I had originally wanted to use my inquisition army but one of the rules of the league is that no more than 750pts can be spent on Allies which would make it difficult without quite a lot of work.

With this in mind I have decided to go back to my Eldar but this time to a previous love.......The Harlequins! I used my usual Eldar army in the previous tournament but invoked some Ire as my twin wave serpent and Wraithknight set up wasn't very popular!

This time around however I am looking to put out a fluffy army with the intention of having fun rather than any thoughts of being competitive.

There has been the odd rumours going around about the possibility of a harlequin mini dex but for the moment I've just got the craftworld eldar and dark eldar books available to use, I have a few ideas down on paper and have picked up the first few models, hopefully over the coming weeks I can get a few painting posts up on here!

Auric's Pridehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989104909705110473noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5790274324563307172.post-71839131055504613192013-11-19T03:35:00.000-08:002013-11-19T03:35:29.785-08:00Say hello to my little friend!Well I've not had an update in a little while now but this is what I have been working on!
He's almost finished, just a few small details to be done on the base but overall I am really happy with it. Lovely model to put together and to paint and although he hasn't done that much on the battlefield for me yet one I look forward to using a bit more!
It consists of:
Illic Nightspear
8 Rangers
3 Jetbikes- Shuriken Cannon
10 Dire Avengers- Exarch, Power Weapon & Shimmershield

Not entirely sure how effective it'll be on the table top but it's the start of what I am planning as a 'Tournament' list.

I've been reading a few of the Black Library Eldar books recently, particularly the Path of the Seer and Path of the Outcast and they mention White Seers.
White Seers are powerful Farseer's who are basically a bridge between the Craftworlds and the Black Library and are charged with collecting knowledge of Chaos.
I loved the idea of this and decided to paint up an old Farseer model to represent one.

A slow painter with a lack of free time doesn't make for a quick army build!
The first unit is done though, naturally it had to be a Ranger unit!
Very much looking forward to painting up this model. For finecast it is very well moulded. Only had to make one small correction, filling up a hole in the shoulder pad where a bubble had been.Auric's Pridehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989104909705110473noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5790274324563307172.post-13617700300551288202013-08-21T15:14:00.002-07:002013-08-21T15:14:39.755-07:00The test model!

Well I dug out my old rangers and in a couple of hours this evening put together a quick test model. Ignore the base as it has been neglected but I think this may be close to the final colour scheme.
Not entirely sure on the cloak & leather colours, I have some Vallejo camo paints on the way which may be a bit better. Overall though I am quite happy! (Oh and yes it is sat ontop of a fish tank, it provides the best lighting!)
I have started this blog to chronicle my fledgling Eldar army.
A few weeks back a friend of mine came up with the idea of running a "Tale of four gamers". Based on the articles that White Dwarf previously used to run which told the tale of four gamers building up armies piece by piece each month and then battling at the end of each month.
My original idea was to create an Inquisition warband using Coteaz and the Inquisitorial Henchmen but sadly finding attractive and economical models to do this was about as easy as finding a close combat driven Tau army!
This led to a lot of thinking and wondering what else I could do that would be fun/original. I came up with ideas for various themed armies and starting up armies that were completely new to me (Tau, Demons, Dark Eldar) but it was a model that popped up on Ebay that made my mind up for me.
The Eldar have always been my main love when it comes to 40k. Small Elite armies have always been my preferred way of playing and I've always loved the background fluff. I've done a few different Eldar armies (Ulthwe, Alaitoc and my own Craftworld) but one of my favourites was always the old Alaitoc list (with Disruption table etc) there is something about snipers that is just innately cool and now they have a shiny new character what better time is there to start the army up again?!?
The big benefit of doing the Tale of four gamers is that I have plenty of time to get the army painted up and with us doing it in stages (500pt start then extra 250 a month after) I can really focus on getting the modelling and painting as good as I can!
Hopefully I can start posting up some pictures soon, I am currently waiting for a couple of bits to dry on a test model.
Hopefully if you are reading this then you'll find some interest in what I am doing and will follow my progress, feel free to comment on any posts made on the blog, I am always interested to hear peoples opinions!Auric's Pridehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989104909705110473noreply@blogger.com1
